Puerto Rico
Your Caribbean Gateway for your Dream Vacation!!!
Puerto Rico is located in the Caribbean Ocean. It is the smallest of the Greater Antilles Islands, which include Cuba (the largest), Haiti and the República Dominicana (sharing an island), and Jamaica. Puerto Rico is only 100 miles long by 35 miles wide. It is 1000 miles from Miami. Puerto Ricans often call the island Borinquen, from Borikén, its indigenous Taíno name. The island is also popularly known as "La Isla del Encanto", which translated means "The Island of Enchantment."
Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth of the United States (a US territory). U.S. citizens coming from mainland destinations do not need any documents to enter Puerto Rico. It is the same as crossing from Georgia into Florida. Therefore, US citizens do not need to carry proof of citizenship or to produce documents. However, because of new airport security measures, it is necessary to produce a government-issued photo ID (federal, state, or local) to board a plane; this is most often a driver’s license. Also the currency is USD (us dollar). Spanish and English are the official languages, but Spanish is without a doubt the dominant language. English is spoken for about 1/4 of the population-with limited capabilities. English is spoken in all major tourist areas.
There is no place quite like a tropical volcanic Island and no Island in the Caribbean quite like Puerto Rico. The geography of the Island is very unusual, as it encompasses distinctly different kinds of topography and microclimates in a relatively small area. Puerto Rico is many, many things. We hope you will enjoy discovering a few of them.
Fajardo is known as "La Metrópolis del Sol Naciente" (the city that guards the sun of the Caribbean). Fajardo was founded in 1772. It was originally named Santiago de Fajardo.
Fajardo is one of the most originally beautiful spots on the island's shores. Located in the east region of the island, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Ceiba and east of Luquillo. Fajardo is a major boating center, with a wide range of rentals and charters available, with daily and sport-diving excursions as well as scheduled ferries and air service carrying passengers and cargo to Culebra and Vieques.
